1970 - 1979

In October 1970, William S. Rodgers was moved to fill a vacancy in the Conference and Reverend Mervin Howard moved from Galax UMC to West End.

A new roof was put on the church in 1971 at the cost of $1,762.00. The Fellowship Hall was remodeled with a drop ceiling and paneling in 1973-74 under the direction of Robert Aker, building fund chairman, at a cost of $2,000.00. In 1973, a new drop ceiling and new light fixtures were added to the sanctuary at a cost of $1,998.00. On December 9, 1973, the piano in the sanctuary was used for the first time. The piano was purchased for $884.00.

Stained glass windows given by the members of the church were installed in October, 1974, at a cost of $2002.00. A new outside bulletin board was erected in 1977 at a cost of $1,000.00. A wooden cross made by Mr. Hugh Grubb was presented to the church and installed in 1978. Also, in 1978, the wainscotting on the walls of the sanctuary was completed at a cost of $2,400. A Church Library was authorized by the Administrative Board in 1978. The parsonage drive-way was paved in 1978 at a cost of $860.00. The final payment on the education building was made in February, 1979.
